【時事英語に学ぶ】（その２）ニューヨークタイムズ１２月４日 トランプとメディア

こんにちは（こんばんわ）。酒と映画と本を愛するアップアンドダウンです。今回は、２０１８年１２月４日のコラムです。何故か、ネットで全文が上げられません。

   この一節は、トランプと保守派メディアであるFOXニュースが一連托生の間柄にあると述べています。

  “Nixon had no propaganda arm. Trump has one. It’s called Fox News. There is little daylight between the network’s programming and the White House’s priorities.

If Trump goes down, so too does Fox, in some measure. So the network has a vested interest in defending Trump until the bitter end, and that narrative-crafting could impede an otherwise natural and normal disaffection with Trump.”

daylightから連想されるのは、daylight saving timeなどですが、この場合は「違い」とか「隙間」を意味します。daylightの第一の意味は当然「日光」で、それが転じて「違い」などとなった経緯はまだ調べいません。

 ただ、この文章の第二パラを読めば、この転意が分かります。その意味で、勉強になる記事です。それに、この他のNYT記事にも出てくるように、英字紙では割とありふれた表現のようです。
